Math Standards Teacher Training

As you may recall, on May 22, 26, 27, or 28 Jen Holland-Marks will provide day long math standard training for each of the following groups of teachers. The northland Pod has already been assigned May 26. I need each of the remaining pods to pick either May 22, 27, or 28 and indicate which of the pod schools will host the training.

Educational Endowment Challenge Grant 2019-20

Only 10 schools have applied for the Educational Endowment Challenge Grant for the 2019-20 school year. That means 17 schools did not even apply. The deadline was in June. This challenge grant means that if the school or parish raises $10,000 for their school’s endowment, the school gets another $10,000 matched, so the school increases their endowment by $20,000. This is FREE matching money. Why not do it? The matching amount is limited to $10,000 and is first come first serve. There is about $80,000 left to match. You can set the amount you plan to match from $1,000 to $10,000, whatever you feel comfortable in doing. The deadline has been extended to about 2 weeks from today. So, talk to your pastor or your business manager and find a way to match some amount!!! Call or write Jeremy Lillig to get an application (lillig@diocesekcsj.org).

TB Screening/Health Manual

All employees must have a TB Screening ONLY upon hire.  This includes Early Ed.  Principals, please share the link to the Health Manual with your school nurses or those who fill that role.

Special Needs Staff

If you have a new person in your building that is supporting special needs students (regardless of their official title) please send their contact info to Nicolette (Nicolette@learninstyle.org) so she can include them in ICE emails and meetings.

October 11 PD Day

We are preparing for the October 11th PD Day.  Please send Kerry the number of people you will have coming as soon as possible.  If you would specify how many will be at St. Pius and how many will be at St. Therese ( if you have an ECC ) that would be appreciated.

Flu Clinics

If you are in need of a flu shot please plan to attend one of the 15 flu clinics being held at locations within the Diocese (see attachment).  Also, if you would like to receive a pregnancy vaccine or the vaccine for ages 65+ you will need to request these vaccines. The clinic provider will only bring these two types of vaccines if they are requested in advance. In order to request these specific vaccines directly with the provider, please email clinicsupport@healthysolutionsinc.com. Tell them which clinic you are attending and which vaccine you desire.

Balsa Bridge Contest

The University of Missouri, College of Engineering and MU Extension will be hosting the second annual Missouri Bridge Corps’ Balsa Bridge Competition on Saturday, April 18th at Mizzou and we would love to see you on campus! The competition is for student teams from 6th-8th grade. Each team of up to six students led by a faculty mentor will design and build a 36” scaled bridge using balsa and wood glue at their respective school. Materials needed for construction of the bridge will be provided.  You are encouraged to get your students involved in this event! Bridge building promotes the study and applications of physics and engineering. The competition is a perfect opportunity for students to experience what it is to be an engineer and experience advanced STEM education in a hands-on environment.
Please see the attached flyer for more information. Or, visit our websitehttps://engineering.missouri.edu/mizzoubridgecorps for more information and to register your teams by October 15th, 2019. The University of Missouri College of Engineering looks forward to the opportunity to welcome your students to discover how STEM education leads to a better tomorrow.

Email any further inquiries to mizzoubridgecorps@missouri.edu

SPED Certificate Offered by Avila University ~ 2nd Notice

Avila University’s School of Education will be offering a new 10 credit hour, graduate certificate in Special Education beginning in Spring 2020. This certificate is NOT a DESE certification, but rather a collection of their best SPED courses designed to support current teachers who have, or plan to, test into SPED through the Pearson content exam. It is also for regular education teachers who would like to be more knowledgeable about the SPED students they serve in their classrooms.

Teachers can also apply these 10 credit hours to Avila’s Teaching and Learning Master’s Degree, if they wish to pursue the degree, but the certificate can be done as stand-alone certificate. Avila does not offer a master’s in Special Education, rather this would be a concentration option in their current master’s program.

Avila will offer this as a special cohort delivered to your teachers on-site in your district. They must have a minimum of 10 students to run a cohort at your site, so you may want to consider collaborating with neighboring schools to combine your efforts if you are interested in this option.

An overview of the program is attached.
